Writer-director Jess Teong’s second feature established a new record in Singapore upon its theatrical release here in November 2017, with Jess, producer Stanley Law, and the entire cast, in person, for the biggest Gala Premiere of an Asian movie in the 60-year history of SFS. The film ran continuously in cinemas islandwide from 17th November 2017 to 28th February 2018, selling out screening after screening, and dominating multiple language TV channels in both trailer exposure as well as editorial coverage. The plot continues from where THE KID FROM THE BIG APPLE left off; the now closely-knit family faces a new challenge, with growing signs of the onset of early dementia in grandpa. Again, audiences everywhere have been moved to tears, and uplifted at the same time; SFS has, as with the first film, programmed THE KID FROM THE BIG APPLE 2: BEFORE WE FORGET, in numerous festivals as well, either as a double-bill with the first, or as a standalone feature since the sequel can be watched and enjoyed as a complete film in itself.
