Singapore Premiere

Dir. Gaspar Noe
2021 | France | Drama | 142 mins | In French with English subtitles | NC16 (Drug Use)

In Noe’s (Irreversible, 2002; Enter the Void, 2009; Climax, 2018) most mature film to date, Vortex is a powerful quasi-documentary drama following an elderly couple (played by giallo director Dario Argento and veteran actress Francoise Lebrun) who are stricken by heart problems and the onset of dementia respectively. Through the director’s astute use of the split-screen technique, the film meditates on the twin themes of mortality and love, where technique, form and content co-exist to create a singular cinematic experience.

Awards: Official Selection – Cannes Film Festival & Locarno Film Festival
