SFS Showcase #3: Identity & Connection

Sat25Sep'21 - Sat02Oct'21
GV Suntec

We are delighted to present our third thematic showcase – Identity & Connection – this late September and early October!

With the third Showcase, SFS invites audiences to look inwards at ourselves as complex human beings, through the lens of films that shed light on what identity and connection mean. How do we know we are who we are? How do we connect with our own identity, as nebulous as it may be, and how do the people we meet change the way we see ourselves or connect with others?

In “Identity & Connection”, the three films featured are highly personal stories of individuals caught up in their changing cultural milieu. In MOGUL MOWGLI, ethnic identity is a key theme as a British Pakistani rapper is afflicted by an illness that threatens to derail his big break.  APPLES, a quaint work of the now-established Greek Weird Wave, centers on building new identities amid a worldwide pandemic that triggers sudden amnesia, causing people to lose their memory of who they are. Lastly, AINU MOSIR sees a 14-year old boy, a descendant of Japan’s indigenous Ainu people, trying to come to terms with the recent death of his father while learning what it means to connect with one’s cultural and ethnic heritage.
