SFS Showcase #8: DONBASS (Sat 28 May, 1.30pm)
DONBASS
Sat 28 May, 1.30pm
The Projector – Blue Room
Singapore Premiere
Dir. Sergei Loznitsa
2018 | Ukraine | Drama | 122 mins | In Russian, Ukrainian and English with English subtitles | NC16 (Coarse Language and Some Violence)
When war is called peace, when propaganda is uttered as truth, when hatred is declared to be love, then life itself begins to resemble death. This is a rare narrative feature from Sergei Loznitsa, one of the world’s foremost screen documentarians of Soviet history, shot as a vignette-style dark absurdist satire that doesn’t pull its punches from depicting the sorry state of affairs in Russian-occupied Eastern Ukraine.
Awards: Won Un Certain Regard Award – Directing Prize (Cannes Film Festival); Nominated for KNF Award (Rotterdam International Film Festival)
